The song writing duo of Tony Hamera and Kate Hinote, the creative force behind The Blueflowers, began collaborating in 2004, writing in an array of musical styles from shoegaze to folk to indie-rock. It would not be until 2008 that the pieces which would make up The Blueflowers would come into place. After months of writing, member changes, rehearsals, and gigs, their debut album Watercolor Ghost Town was released - a cinematic melange of alt-country, gothic Americana, 60’s psych, and indie pop - highlighted by vocalist Kate Hinote's emotional and somber delivery. Guitarist Tony Hamera's ambient tapestry stirs memories of David Lynch's dark visions, the spaghetti-western soundtracks of Ennio Morricone, and the brokenhearted ballads of Roy Orbison. Rounding out the maudlin quintet is drummer Marvin Shaouni, bassist Erica Stephens and David Johnson on the acoustic guitar. Currently, The Blueflowers are playing live in the metro Detroit area and are working on new music for their sophomore release due out summer 2010.
